Lionspeed set to kick off Sprint Cup season at Zandvoort

Lionspeed GP is set for a busy week of on-track action as its campaign in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS continues. While the team makes its Sprint Cup debut with a two-car entry at Zandvoort, the past days have see preparations begin for the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa with the official Prologue.

The 24H Spa Prologue, held between May 12-14, offers teams the opportunity to test at the demanding Spa-Francorchamps circuit just over a month before the 78th running of the world’s most challenging GT3 race. Teams had a total of sixteen hours of track time at their disposal, spread across four sessions.

Now that the Prologue at Spa has been completed, Lionspeed will make the 300-kilometer journey from Belgium to the Netherlands for the kickoff of its Sprint Cup season at Zandvoort. There, the team will field a two-car entry for the first time, running a pair of Porsches in the competitive Bronze Cup class.

Rindone and Feller continue their full-season campaign aboard the No. 80 car, having first teamed together at the Endurance Cup season opener at Paul Ricard last month. The newly added second car, meanwhile, will see Bashar Mardini team up with former Porsche Supercup champion Bastian Buus. Although both drivers have Endurance Cup appearances to their name, they will make their Sprint Cup debuts in the dune circuit. Bronze-rated Mardini in particular is set for the next chapter of his racing career, having gained significant Porsche experience in various championships including International GT Open and the Asian Le Mans Series.

The Sprint Cup weekend consists of two, 60-minute races, each with a mandatory pitstop and driver swap. Free Practice and Pre-Qualifying take place on Friday, with Saturday and Sunday each featuring a ten-minute qualifying session followed by a race in the afternoon.
