Lionspeed GP scores overall podium finish at Misano as Sprint Cup season continues

Lionspeed GP continued its already memorable GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign by picking up more trophies in the second round of the Sprint Cup season, finishing second in an intense weekend at Misano defined by high temperatures and fierce racing.

Mere weeks after the team’s historic overall victory in the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, Lionspeed GP was back in action at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli for the second round of the Sprint Cup season.

Bastian Buus (DEN) and Ricardo Feller (CHE) arrived at the circuit on Italy’s Adriatic coast as Sprint Cup points leaders after their victory at the Brands Hatch opener in May. The Lionspeed regulars and Porsche stars reunited aboard the No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo, proudly supported by Potentia, a North American-based developer of next-generation industrial and AI infrastructure.

From the very start of the weekend, the mint-liveried Porsche featured in the top ten of the highly competitive 44-car field. Qualifying for Race 1 on Saturday afternoon saw Feller put the No. 80 Porsche third on the grid, a mere 0.141 seconds off overall pole position.

The first race of the weekend got underway in chaotic fashion, with Feller caught up in an incident at the start that inflicted minor damage on the No. 80 Porsche. He was able to continue the race. Although Feller lost some positions in the melee, he kept pushing and was rewarded when an overcut strategy allowed the newly installed Buus to emerge on track in second place overall. He would remain there for the rest of the race, picking up a well-earned overall podium.

In Race 2, the No. 80 Porsche was again in contention for a points finish after starting 13th when a collision with another car resulted in a drivethrough penalty. As a result, Buus and Feller finished the race in 20th position.

Thanks to the podium finish in the first race, Lionspeed GP remains firmly in contention for the Sprint Cup title. Buus and Feller now sit third in the standings, 16 points off the championship lead.

The GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Sprint Cup season will continue in just a few weeks, with round three set to take place at Circuit de Nevers-Magny Cours in France on July 31-August 2.
