- Lionspeed GP roars back into life with weekend of historic racing at Circuit Paul Ricard
- Three-car effort featuring vintage Porsche and Jaguar machinery
- Tim Mol returns with Jaguar E-Type; triple duty for team principal Patrick Kolb
With the summer break in the rear view mirror, Lionspeed GP will return to action for the second half of the 2024 season with the Dix Mille Tours event at Paul Ricard. The German squad’s classic division is well represented at the Peter Auto event, fielding a total of four cars.
The Dix Mille Tours event holds a special status on the Peter Auto calendar, as it was at this very event in 2010 where Peter Auto regrouped the different historic grids and laid the foundation for its current form of historic racing as we know it today.
Lionspeed will compete at the Le Castellet circuit for the second time in 2024, having made its Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup debut there in April. This time, the team trades in its contemporary GT3 machinery for four exquisite historic racing cars in three championships.
For starters, Lionspeed is excited to welcome back Tim Mol, who will be driving his 1962 Jaguar E-Type Semi-Lightweight in the two-hour Sixties Endurance race on Saturday evening. Mol will share the cockpit of the No. 26 car with Lionspeed team principal Patrick Kolb. As Mol points out, the race will start at 20:20 in the evening and run into the night, providing an additional challenge for drivers.
“I am happy to be back in Peterauto with Lionspeed Classics and my 1962 Jaguar E-Type, after an elongated winter break,” said Mol. “With the Sixties endurance race taking place on Saturday evening and going into the darkness it is always a special event here in Southern France.”
Mol and Kolb will both also see action in the Porsche 2L Cup, which holds its sole, 90-minute race on Sunday. Mol shares the No. 82 Porsche 911 2.0L SWB with Uwe Kolb, while Patrick drives solo aboard the No. 73 car. Additionally, Patrick and Uwe Kolb are also set to tackle the Classic Endurance Racing race together with a 1974 Porsche 911 3.0 RSR, taking turns behind the wheel as part of a one-hour race on Sunday.
Track action at Circuit Paul Ricard will kick off on Friday, which is also when Mol and Kolb will tackle qualifying for the Sixties Endurance contest in their Jaguar. The two Porsches, meanwhile, will qualify on Saturday.
