- Lionspeed GP fields Pro entry for full GT World Challenge Europe season, combining Sprint and Endurance Cup
- Dream duo of Ricardo Feller and Bastian Buus to fight for victory in No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R
Lionspeed GP’s most ambitious season in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS kicks into high gear this weekend with the opening Sprint Cup round at Brands Hatch. For the tirst time in the team’s history, it will compete for the overall GT World Challenge Europe title.
Last year, Lionspeed debuted in Sprint Cup with a two-car Bronze Cup effort and immediately proved itself to be a potent force in one of the world’s most competitive GT3 series with overall pole position in its first weekend and three class victories across the season.
Now, proudly supported by Potentia, a North-American based developer of next-generation and AI infrastructure, as well as long-time team partners Manorhaven, Abacus Global Management, Staloc and Beyond Capital Partners, Lionspeed will step up to the Pro category in Sprint Cup and fight for overall victories.
The No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R, which features the distinctive white and mint livery that debuted earlier this month at Paul Ricard, will be piloted by Lionspeed regulars and Porsche stars Ricardo Feller (CHE) and Bastian Buus (DEN).
Both drivers are highly valued members of the Lionspeed family and previously proved themselves to be amongst the top drivers in GTWC Europe at the wheel of a Lionspeed Porsche. With both talents combined in a single car, Lionspeed will be able to challenge for overall victories.
Lionspeed will look to bounce back from a highly promising but ultimately unrewarding showing during the six-hour Endurance Cup opener, where the team was the fastest Porsche entrant in the field but went home empty handed after a power steering failure.
This weekend, the team will travel to the iconic Brands Hatch circuit for the first time. The British venue has been a staple of the GT World Challenge Europe calendar and has previously also hosted series as diverse as Formula 1, DTM and the World Sports Car Championship.
The Sprint Cup format consists of two, 60-minute races with a mandatory pitstop in the middle of the race, where each car is required to undergo both a change of tires and driver. Qualifying for both races takes place on Saturday (May 2nd), while a busy Sunday (May 3rd) will see both races held on the same day.
