Lionspeed GP: Overall Bronze-Cup Vize-Champions in GT World Challenge Europe

  • Gabriel Rindone, Patrick Kolb and Ricardo Feller finish fifth in class in Barcelona finale
  • Impressive season culminates with runner-up spot in season-long Bronze Cup standings
  • Team looks back on fruitful season with three victories

Lionspeed GP has capped off a strong season in GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS by securing second place in the overall Bronze Cup standings. In the Endurance Cup finale at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Gabriel Rindone, Patrick Kolb and Ricardo Feller were in contention for a class podium before ultimately coming home in fifth.

The three-hour race on the circuit located in Montmelo, just outside Barcelona, served as the closing chapter in what has been a rollercoaster of a season in GTWC Europe. After a podium at the most recent Endurance Cup round at the Nürburgring, Rindone, Kolb and Feller teamed up aboard the No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R one more time with the goal of ending their campaign on a high.

The team wasted no time in displaying class-leading pace once Free Practice got underway on Saturday morning, with Kolb setting the fastest lap of 1:41.536 to lead the Bronze Cup. This strong form was carried through into Sunday morning qualifying, where Feller went second-fastest overall in the third session whereby the three drivers secured third in class starting position for the No. 80 Lionspeed Porsche.

Rindone took the start for the three-hour season finale and did well to stay out of trouble as a multi-car incident in the midfield resulted in an early safety car. Several more neutralizations followed, which in turn led to a divergence in strategies. However, a well-timed stop under caution later in the race meant Kolb took over the car in second place with an offset strategy. After many battles in class following the last safety car the Lionspeed Porsche finished P5 in class.

Although another podium finish narrowly escaped the No. 80 Porsche, the top-five result means that Lionspeed secured the runner-up spot in the overall Bronze Cup standings, which takes into account the combined points from both Endurance and Sprint Cup races. In the Endurance Drivers Championship Rindone, Feller and Kolb finished P3 a strong third in their first full season in the highly competitive Bronze Class.

This achievement is further proof of Lionspeed’s strong performances across the course of the season, which brought many firsts for the team. It fielded a two-car effort in Sprint Cup for the first time, in which it captured three race victories.

With an additional podium in the three-hour Endurance Cup round at the Nürburgring, the team can look back at a highly accomplished campaign in what is widely regarded as the most competitive GT3 championship in the world.
