- Lionspeed GP finishes third in class in Hankook 24H Barcelona
- Team officially secures second place in 24H Series GT4 standings
- No. 424 Porsche takes podium in all but one race across campaign
Lionspeed GP finished off its European GT4 season in the Hankook 24H Series with a hard-fought podium. The No. 424 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS CS finished third in class in the gruelling Hankook 24H Barcelona.
After previous podium finishes at Mugello, Spa-Francorchamps and Misano, Lionspeed arrived at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya having clinched second place in the GT4 standings before even turning a wheel. Only one challenge remained: the 25th running of the Hankook 24H Barcelona, also known as the Trofeo Fermí Vélez.
For the twice-around-the-clock enduro, the team could once again count on its full driver lineup as Daniel Miller (USA) rejoined Jose Garcia (USA), Dennis Bohn and Patrick Kolb (both GER). Kolb, building on his experience of the event and an overall podium finish twelve months ago, took the start of the wheel of the No. 424 Porsche. He rolled off third in class, after the team put together a combined time of 1:52.989 during qualifying on Friday.
A strong start from Kolb ensured Lionspeed led the GT4 class by the end of the opening lap. From there, the team set in for the long haul. Trouble-free and competitive running meant the team remained a consistent presence near the top positions of the GT4 class throughout the opening half of the race. As night fell over Spain, a strong night stint from Kolb then brought the team to the class lead approaching the halfway point, where it would remain until the early hours of Sunday morning. Sadly, a blown fuse then forced the car into the pits for an unplanned stop, relinquishing first place in the process.
When the No. 424 Porsche rejoined, it was in third place and a handful of laps down on the class lead. The team pushed on for the remaining hours, holding on to third place. Bohn took the car to the chequered flag, having completed 671 laps and finishing third in the GT4 category.
With that, Lionspeed GP completes its European GT4 campaign with a fourth podium finish in five races. In the process, it achieved a notable stat: finishing in the top three in class in every single race it completed. Additionally, Lionspeed were confirmed as vice-champions in the GT4 category at the end of its debut season as an independent GT operation.
Having completed its GT4 season, Lionspeed GP will now concentrate on the remainder of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup. That campaign continues this coming weekend at the Autodromo Internazionale di Monza, where the No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R lines up for a three-hour race at the Temple of Speed.
