CER1 Podium caps off packed Barcelona Historics Weekend for Lionspeed GP

  • Four cars in three classes during Espiritu de Montjuïc event in Barcelona
  • Uwe and Patrick Kolb take podium finish during Classic Endurance Racing 1 contest
  • Team battles rainy conditions all weekend long

Lionspeed GP’s classics division enjoyed a fruitful return to racing during the Espiritu de Montjuïc event at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Four cars across three championships all reached the finish line during each of their races, with a podium finish for the Porsche 911 3.0 RSR of the father-and-son pairing of Uwe and Patrick Kolb the highlight of the weekend.

Peter Auto kicked off its 2025 season with the multi-day event at the Spanish Grand Prix venue, with Lionspeed present with three Porsches and a single Jaguar to compete in three different championships.

Lionspeed team principal Patrick Kolb was in action during each contest, driving a 1974 Porsche 3.0 RSR in the Classic Endurance Racing series and steering the car to a strong grid slot in qualifying for the 60-minute race despite dealing with significant rainfall throughout.

When the race got underway, Lionspeed battled with faster prototypes ahead and ran as high as fourth overall prior to the mid-race mandatory pitstop and driver swap. The team then maintained its strong position, once again dealing with heavy rain, and finished third in class in the GT1 category.

Kolb and Tim Mol luckily got a break from the rain when they lined up for the two-hour Sixties Endurance contest on Saturday evening, which remarkably was that series’ only dry session of the entire weekend.

In one of the highlights of the event from an enthusiast’s perspective, the pack of over 40 historic GT cars battled into darkness as the race started at 18:00 local time and ran into sunset. After qualifying mid-pack, Mol and Kolb maintained position and ran a trouble-free race, finishing 31st overall in their 1962 Jaguar E-Type Semi-Lightweight.

Finally, all three of Lionspeed’s drivers were in action during the Porsche 2L Cup as the team entered two Porsche 911 2.0L SWBs. Of note, Mol completed a solo race for the first time aboard the No. 82 machine, marking a new milestone for the Dutch driver. The sister No. 24 machine again featured the father-and-son duo of Uwe and Patrick Kolb. Unfortunately, a fuel pump failure cost them several laps, but both cars managed to reach the finish and were classified 22nd and 23rd.

With the season kickoff for the classics division now in the rear-view mirror, Lionspeed GP will turn its attention towards the opening round of GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS Endurance Cup at Circuit Paul Ricard. The team will tackle the six-hour race in the Bronze Cup class, with news about the driver lineup to follow in the coming days.
