- Lionspeed GP’s two-car GTWC Europe program heads to Monza for Endurance Cup round
- Thomas Preining rejoins newly crowned race winners Bastian Buus and Ricardo Feller
- Bashar Mardini, Patrick Kolb and Alex Fontana aim to bounce back from early Paul Ricard exit
Lionspeed GP’s GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS campaign continues with the second round of the Endurance Cup season at Monza. After a maiden overall victory in the series at Brands Hatch, the team looks to achieve further success at the legendary Temple of Speed.
The three-hour race at Monza acts as the final Endurance Cup round before June’s CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, but is a unique challenge in its own right. The circuit’s fast but unforgiving nature requires high confidence and pin-point precision, while the race start is always a big task as dozens of GT3 cars charge into the tight Variante del Rettifilo chicane on the first lap.
Lionspeed GP will line up with its full-season two car effort at Monza, headlined by the No. 80 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo driven by Thomas Preining (AUT), Bastian Buus (DEN) and Ricardo Feller (CHE).
The mint-liveried car Potentia Porsche, has quickly developed a reputation as a front-running force thanks to a charging performance at Paul Ricard and a maiden overall victory for the team in the Sprint Cup round at Brands Hatch.
On the other side of the garage, the No. 89 Porsche 911 GT3 R Evo will line up in the Bronze Cup category with the support of long-time Lionspeed GP partners Manorhaven, Abacus Global Management, Staloc and Beyond Capital Partners.
Bashar Mardini (CAN), team principal Patrick Kolb (GER) and Alex Fontana (CHE) will look to bounce back after an undeserving early end to their race at Paul Ricard, which came when a Pro car pushed the No. 89 Porsche off the track and into the barriers on the opening lap.
Official on-track running at Monza takes place across Saturday and Sunday, although testing opportunities are available in the days prior. A pair of Free Practices sessions, each 90 minutes long, are scheduled for Saturday at 9:00 and 14:25, respectively. Qualifying then kicks off Sunday morning at 9:50, while the 3 Hours of Monza is scheduled to begin at 15:30.
